Back-to-School Information

I would like to extend a warm welcome to all Moreland students and families to the start of the 2020-2021 school year!  This school year will start like no other start of a school year we have had in the past. Even though the start of the school year may be different than previous years, it will be a great year whether your child is learning at school or at home. The School Board approved the administrative recommendation that the 2020-2021 school year start in a "Phased-in Hybrid Model."

This model starts with Early Learning and kindergarten students in a hybrid model on September 21 and adds additional grades as case data, frequency of isolations and quarantine, and system capacity indicate they can be supported.  All students at Moreland in grades 1-4 will be starting the school year in a distance learning model on Monday, September 14 whether you chose the hybrid model or full distance learning (please note that some of the teacher letters were written prior to the calendar change so it may list the first day of school with a different start date). All kindergarten students will start school on Monday, September 21 either in hybrid or distance learning.

Based on your choice of either hybrid learning or full distance learning, your child is assigned to a class that will follow that model. Students in the hybrid model whose last name begins with A-K will attend school in person on Mondays and Tuesdays and learn from home on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.  Students in the hybrid model whose last name begins with L-Z will attend school in person on Thursdays and Fridays and learn from home on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Parents who chose full distance learning will learn from home Monday-Friday.  The District 197 School Board will determine when it is appropriate for each grade of students to return to school for hybrid/in person learning at school.

For those of you who are returning, we are excited to have your children back with us. If you are new to our school, we are thrilled to welcome you into our wonderful Moreland school community.  Moreland is a vibrant community committed to cultivating creativity, healthy living, and achievement through active learning. Our school wide theme for this year is YOU MATTER! We will be doing activities throughout the year around this theme to show that every person (student, family, and staff member) at Moreland matters in so many different ways!

As principal of Moreland Arts and Health Sciences School, I am committed to the academic and social/emotional success of all students. It is my priority to ensure all families feel welcomed, listened to and are actively involved in their child’s education.  I want every student to be challenged to achieve at his/her highest potential and most importantly, my hope is that Moreland is a place where students feel connected and are actively engaged in meaningful experiences.
